Your jacket is filled with 90% down and 10% feather, wrapped in a nylon shell and lined in polyester. Down works by trapping air, so heat, harsh treatment and being kept compressed can all flatten it over time. A little care goes a long way. These six steps will help your MKI Translucent Bubble, Diamond or Apex jacket stay light, lofty and warm, from the day it arrives.

Step One
Let it breathe. Your jacket arrives compressed from its transit packaging. When it's delivered, hang it in a warm, dry place for 24 to 48 hours so the down can expand to its full capacity and give the jacket its intended shape.

Step Two
Spot clean first. If there are any small marks, dab the area with a damp cloth and a little mild detergent rather than washing the whole jacket. This keeps full washes to a minimum and helps the down last longer.

Step Three
Hand wash in cold water. When it needs a full wash, hand wash only, in cold water. Gently press and squeeze the jacket rather than scrubbing or wringing it, then rinse until the water runs clear.

Step Four
Keep it away from bleach, the tumble dryer and dry cleaning. None of these are suitable for these jackets, and each can damage the fabric or the down filling.

Step Five
Dry naturally and reshape. Lay the jacket flat or hang it somewhere warm and airy, away from direct heat, until completely dry. Give it a gentle shake and fluff every so often to bring the down back to full loft.

Step Six
Iron low, if at all. If the jacket needs smoothing, use a low heat setting only, with a cloth between the iron and the fabric. Store it hung or loosely folded rather than compressed.
